AIC Warrior News
Warrior Wednesday: Brandon Shirley
Brandon V. Shirley is a freshman from Tuba City who is working toward his B.A. Church Leadership. In the beginning, Brandon was drawn to SAGU AIC because “it’s what God wanted me to do. The school was always promoted to me as a kid, so I felt drawn here.” He chose the Church Leadership program because he wanted to get a degree in ministry, specifically something that would allow him to be a youth pastor or youth counselor. “I’ve always wanted to help Native American youth,” he says.
Brandon is heavily involved on campus, as he works in both the cafeteria and the Warrior’s Den, while helping with student government. He finds there is a lot to love about SAGU AIC. “I enjoy the small community at the college. There’s not many people, so you kind of get to know everyone a bit. I enjoy learning more about people’s lives and seeing how God has worked in their lives. The college always gave this welcoming feeling to me even before I started classes. I always remembered how nice the professors were when I visited, and how connected they are with students.”
To incoming freshman, Brandon says, “At first, I noticed the campus was small. As I started warming up to the campus, I started to meet other Christians and formed a deeper connection with God. Motivation is only temporary; anyone can be so motivated to go run three miles one day, but it takes discipline to stay consistent. Discipline is what will make you successful with anything you do, including prayer and Bible study.”
Brandon plans to finish his studies in 2025.
