On Saturday May 1, 2021, SAGU American Indian College held a combined commencement ceremony in Henson Chapel to celebrate 2020 and 2021 graduates. The theme of the ceremony was “Called and Empowered,” based upon 2 Timothy 1:9.
The ceremony began with a procession of SAGU AIC administration, faculty, and graduates followed by the National Anthem. President David J. Moore (now President Emeritus) gave the invocation and welcome.
Executive Vice President Dr. Joseph Saggio, Professor of Business Dr. Barry Shennum, and Professor of Education Dr. Sherry Jones presented the Sigma Chi Pi Awards. This honor is given to graduates who demonstrate outstanding academic scholarship, approved Christian character, and Christian leadership. Benjamin Neuls received the Spring 2020 award and Sarah Cosentino received the Spring 2021 award. Rev. Nicholas Zamorano received the Spring 2020 honorary award, which is awarded to outstanding alumni who have been graduates for at least ten years. Pastor Nick received his M.A. in Bible and Theology from SAGU, but was honored here for that.
Graduates Manuel Villa, Benjamin Neuls, Sarah Cosentino, and Rev. Nicholas Zamorano each spoke on their experience at SAGU AIC and encouraged the audience to be “called and empowered” (2 Timothy 1:9).
President David J. Moore (now President Emeritus) conferred the degrees, which included Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Master of Arts.
Dr. Ron Rockwell, Pastor at Harvest Church in Glendale, AZ, and Assistant Superintendent of the Arizona Ministry Network, led the commissioning prayer and benediction for the graduates. Each graduate invited spiritual leaders in their life to pray over them during this time. At the end of the ceremony, Dr. Rockwell was joined for the closing prayer by Rev. Stephen Harris, Superintendent of the Arizona Ministry Network.
The ceremony closed on a joyous note with a recesssional and a celebration that included a photo booth, refreshments, and fellowship.
SAGU AIC once again congratulates the following graduates:
